About the Program

THE OHIO WESLEYAN Department of Economics and the Woltemade Center are offering a newly created experience for incoming first-year students interested in economics, management, accounting, or international business.

“The Economics Management Fellows Program [EMFP] is intended for the best of the best,” says John Boos, Professor of Management and Director of the Woltemade Center. “We will accept only 10 to 15 students each year, so getting one of these Fellowships is an honor. We will expect great things of our Fellows as they continue their academic careers at Ohio Wesleyan.”

Criteria for selection include:

  • Admittance to OWU
  • A high school record and SAT or ACT scores that indicate potential for high achievement at Ohio Wesleyan
  • A stated interest in studying economics, management, business, accounting, or international business.

Once a student has been invited to join the EMFP, he or she must write a 400-word essay addressing topics such as experiences that have influenced him or her to pursue an interest in business or economics, courses taken in related fields, and career or graduate school plans after Ohio Wesleyan.

“A distinct advantage of joining the program is that participants will be quickly introduced to all of the faculty and resources within the Economics Department,” says Boos. “These students will be very involved in the department even in their first year on campus.”

Fellows also will benefit from:

  • Special courses available only to them.
  • For your first three semesters at OWU, you’ll receive a $500/semester book allowance.
  • Invitations to attend special dinners and networking events with upperclassmen, visiting speakers, and OWU alumni working in management, leadership, and academic positions.
  • A fully paid faculty-escorted study trip to New York City, during which Fellows will meet a number of distinguished alumni and professionals in business and government; tour the New York financial district; meet with officials at the New York Federal Reserve Bank; and visit different types of firms, where they will learn about internships and career opportunities.

“This is just one of the tremendous programs that the Woltemade Center and the Department of Economics make available to our majors,” says Boos. “There’s a world of opportunity for them here.”
